Baby carrot juice
Carrots make a good first vegetable puree as carrots are excellent source of vitamin A,and its rich in fibers which helps infant to have normal bowel movements.Carrots also contain some iron,calcium and Vitamin C. Carrots are also good for your baby eyes. .
You can start giving you baby this juice after 6 months.
While carrot juice is healthy, it should never replace formula or breast milk in your child’s diet,
as your child gets his or her main nutrients from breast milk or formula up until their first birthday.
Carrot juice can be given to babies after the 6th month. About 2 to 4 ounces can be given at the start.
Ingredients required
1 medium size carrot
1/4 cup water boiled and cooled
1/4 tsp sugar(optional)
Directions || How to prepare carrot juice for babies
Wash the carrots thoroughly.
Peel the skin.
Grate the carrot with the handy grater.
Add the grated carrot to a blender,sugar and a bit of water so that you can grind it well.
Take the ground pulp and strain it through a sieve or a muslin cloth.
Dilute the juice with water, especially if you are introducing it to their diet.
The ratio should be 1 parts of juice to 3 parts of water.
For older kids it can be equal amounts of juice and water.

Ragi Nachni Porridge(7 + months babies)

Fruit Yogurts for babies (7+ months)
Yogurt is among the healthiest food because of the significantly high amount of nutrients it contains, particularly protein and calcium.
It is available in markets and can also be easily prepared at home.
Flavored yogurt and Greek yogurt are popular yogurt variants available in supermarkets.
Organic, home-made yogurt is better than packaged yogurt available in the market.
Home-made yogurt can be fed to infants above 7 months.
Rice Vegetables Puree
Rice cereal is considered to be the less allergic food for babies and ideally it should be consume at the start of 5-6 months, At the age of 5-6 months babies can start having semi-solid food. Rice has many health benefits for kids like good source of B complex vitamins and the proteins found in rice are very useful for muscle development. Oats Apple Porridge/Lapasi
Oats apple porridge is one more great baby food for your baby to be introduced at the age of 6 – 8 months.Oats is a whole-grain food which is rich in fiber ,its contains more soluble fiber than any other grain and its works good on your digestive systems and hence prevents constipation.If you follow vegetarian diet , its the best food for your baby as its equivalent to meat , milk and egg protein.Oats is one of the best nutritious food for your baby.
Apples can be started when baby turns 6 months old. Apples are highly recommended at this stage at its good to avoid constipation and diarrhea. Apples are rich in dietary fiber ,apple is good to treat cough and not to forget it apple is very good to solve dental problems.

Suji/Rava Banana Porridge/Lapasi
Semolina/Sooji/Rava can to be introduced at the age of 6 – 8 months
Suji is rich in potassium ,iron and proteins. Suji is made from durum wheat and hence it helps you to feel full. Sooji provides great energy and hence it keeps your baby active.
Suji tastes great and acceptable to babies too :)Suji also serves as a good diet during fever or when tummy upset as its light to digest.

This is my first ever blog on home made baby food. I have been getting many request from my viewers and friends to share few baby recipes.The recipes which I am sharing have been tried by my both older and younger daughter when they were babies.I always preferred to go for home made purees as they are fresh ,hygiene and less expensive than commercial baby foods.
When should I introduce solid baby food to my baby ?
The Indian Association of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding as the exclusive source of nutrition
till 6 months of age. At around 4-6 months talk to your doctor and once the doctor gives you a go signal,
you can start solids for your baby.Your baby will also show you sign of readiness.
What kind of signs indicates that your baby is ready ?
1. Your baby will keep its head in a steady upright position.
2. Your baby is doubling its birth weight is a sign that your baby is ready.
3. Increase curiosity when they watch you eating food.
4. They hold their mouth open and imitate eating behavior.
Good hygiene practices before preparing baby food
Wash your hands and work surfaces(counter tops) before you start to prepare meals for your baby.
make sure you wash your pots , spoons , bottles ,bowls and spatulas, all the other equipment’s with water and
sterilize it with hot water.
If your baby is eating finger foods or eating with his hands, wash his hands before he eats his meals.
Change kitchen cloths and tea towels frequently.
How to start your baby food ?
If you decide to start the baby food around 4-6 months, you ensure that the food should be in liquid form.
Introduce each new food after 3-4 days of interval , normally in India tradition baby is introduce with moong dal water.
Baby is fed with the same moong dal water for 3-4 days ,if everything goes fine like there is no allergies/rash or constipation
Baby can be kept on the same diet and then later introduce with new food after 4 days.
Babies should be start with fruits , vegetables and rice cereal for 4-6 months and then you can
introduce meat/fish slowly and gradually. There is no need to hurry ,take it very slowly
initially with one teaspoon and with one tablespoon or so. So here we go , try these recipes at home

Baby Fruits Puree
So are you ready to introduce fruits to your baby ?? If yes , you should understand one thing that babies are born with a sweet tooth hence they are likely to enjoy fruits more than vegetables.The best thing is that fruits are very essential and plays very important role in baby’s diet as its full of vitamins and minerals.
So lets start with three best fruits one at a time.
Banana
Banana is just the perfect first food for babies and its recommended to start it in either in 5th or 6th month.

Apple
Now what to say about Apple .. you all know “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” 🙂
Apples can be started when baby turns 6 months old. Apples are highly recommended at this stage at its good to avoid constipation and diarrhea’s. Apples are rich in dietary fiber ,apple is good to treat cough and not to forget it apple is very good to solve dental problems.Apples needs to be steamed and then pureed.

Banana Puree
Ingredients
1 small ripe banana
2 tbsps of breastmilk or formula
Directions || To prepare Banana Puree
Mash the banana with fork well until smooth.
Mix milk, and stir into the banana(optional)
Serve immediately as the puree starts turning black.
Avocado Puree
Ingredients
1 ripe avocado
Directions || To prepare Avocado Puree
If Serving Fresh / immediately
Mash the avocado with a fork or blend it in a food processor.
Mix with breast milk, formula or water to reach desired consistency(but for the start do not mix it with anything)
Apple Puree
Ingredients
1 Apple
1/2 cup water(or as required)
Directions || To prepare Apple Puree
wash the apple ,Peel, cut apple into slices/chunks
Place slices into a pan with just enough water to slightly cover apples and boil/steam until tender;
be sure to check on the water level and stir.
Once the apple turns tender,add it to a blender and add the left over water upto desire constitency.
Blend it to a fine puree.
Rice and Moong Dal water
So is your baby ready for weaning , if yes ,the first think you should introduce to your baby diet is rice water
and slowly and gradually after 3-4 days start with moong dal water.Now why rice water ??
Rice water is good for treating diarrhea and it helps to treat constipation as its smooth on digestive system.
It helps to keep your baby dehydrated, you can feed your baby every 3-4 hours a day.
Next step is to introduce Moong dal water , now why moong dal ?? among all the lentils,moong is the most safe
and non allergic food,its one of the best food for your babies.It includes a good source of vitamins,minerals and protien,also it is easy to digest.

Ingredients
For rice water
1/2 cup rice (please avoid basmati rice for your babies) I personally prefer using surti kolam.
1 cup water
salt
a pinch of asafoetida
For dal water
1/2 cup yellow moong dal
1 cup water
salt
1/4 turmeric powder
a pinch of asafoetida
Directions || How to prepare rice water
Soak the rice for 10-15 mins before cooking.
Wash well and add rice in a saucepan,add salt,asafoetida and water to it.
Boil until the rice is tender.
Strain the rice and collect the water.
Your rice water is ready.
Directions || How to prepare moong dal water
Soak the moong dal for 10-15 mins before cooking.
Wash well and add moong dal in a pressure cooker,add salt,turmeric powder,asafoetida and water to it.
Boil till 3-4 whistle.
Strain the dal and collect the water.
Your dal water is ready.
